I HATE the reviewers of fanfiction.
Okay, so that's a little harsh. How about I be more specific. I highly dislike the reviewers who put down nothing but, "yay your story is awesome, update soon!!!1!" for every single chapter.
I recently received a review for OTCT (Only Time Can Tell). It was alright... but then I read past the first few comments:

i love this story!! the whole time sango was like"leave kohaku behind" i was like "no! the attack on the village!
anywhoo...i love theis idea...very original and very creative...yea...ok...
"cause im just a teenage dirt bag baby!

Me: WTF???? *e-mails the person back asking if they were high on sugar and what exactly half of their review had to do with the story in itself*
:snorts: I'm probably going to get a flame e-mail in response, but it'll be worth it if they can explain lack of proper typing while answering the questions that had nothing to do with the story in the first place.
Yes, I'm just a tad annoyed.

Now you know... :-)
If I have something I wish to criticize (constructively, of course), or a specific question that doesn't seem like something that's obviously going to be addressed in an upcoming chapter, then I'll put something up. I've even been known to espouse pet theories of mine that might have little or nothing to do with the specific story I'm reading (check some of my comments on the PoF's fics if you want an idea of what I'm talking about...).
Of course, lately (that is to say, for the past month or two) I've been spending an inordinate amount of time out of the house. I've been applying for college and my job has been grinding me into the ground lately (should be good money, though), so I actually haven't had to the chance to finish reading To Make Things Right (which I'm taking care of right now, with my completely free day off), though I did make time to look at Only Time Can Tell (which I guess is evidenced by the fact that I did leave a couple of reviews there).
So now you know... Hopefully, that explanation doesn't sound like a complete cop-out. If it makes you feel any better, I'm composing an Inuyasha fic of my own that will beg to be excoriated once I get it in a final form (something else I'm probably going to work on, today)... lol
But once I finish up TMTR, I plan to leave something in the reviews. I've just gotten to the part where Mushin was murdered and they're about to start the dream battle. I have to say, this makes me very sad... I wonder if a person can really retain their sanity in any meaningful sense after being forced into doing that...
I guess I'll see... :-)
The thing is, I feel like I'm writing more for the reviewers than I am for myself, and I hate that I've reached this point. Which is why I haven't been working on OTCT, and I haven't felt like writing it for the majority of the month.
I noticed your reviews for TMTR, though. Thank you for them, they made me smile. :) I'm sorry to be 'nagging' at you to review, but I was just curious as to why you reviewed for one chapter and not the others.
Well, let's just say that Sango was the point of giving up everything she'd worked for. Murder is not a topic to be taken lightly, and although it's something I've never gone through ( and god I hope I will never have to!), I've seen Inuyasha's reaction to murder, and given that Sango is such a compassionate person, the effects on her as a human being would be tremendous.
And just add to that that I am an angst writer.
I sympathize...
It's one reason I've always been very reluctant to actually post anything on FF.net. I like the feedback but the pressure gets too high to create... but I finally broke down and put out something a couple of days ago, mostly because I puttered around with some random writing and realized that I'd built most of an actual story. Now I'm just cleaning, formatting and posting it. I've got the first chapter up now, and almost have the second good to go...
I'm afraid I'm going to upset some people, though, as I'm not sure some of the readers have actually picked up on the foreshadowing I put into the first chapter... Oh, well, that's the problem when you work in angst, I guess... lol
If you don't mind reading second rate work, take a look at at. I should have the second chapter up in the next day or two if you'd rather wait until then, so you have an idea of where I'm going with it, but it would be good to have a constructive review for me to work with...
Always assuming, of course, that you feel like it... lol Wouldn't want to pressure you... :-)
BTW, I had completely forgotten about Inuyasha's reaction to cold blooded slaughter... You're talking about when he went full on demon and decimated that army, right? I agree, that was horrific... and I can't help but wonder if he still, even now, thinks of that and gets sick over it... I know I would...
